Our Company
History
The history of the development of the Uraba Región in Colombia and the creation of our company La Hacienda SAS are deeply linked to the futuristic View of Jaime Ortiz Betancur, one of its more distinguished pioneers.
In 1957, Jaime Ortiz Betancur arrives as manager of the rubber plantations of Villa Arteaga in Mutata.
The contact with the region impulses him to go more north where he found the fertiles lands of Apartado. use.He dedicated is efforts de adapt and colonize the lands for agricultural use.
In the 60s with the arrival of “Compañía Frutera de Sevilla” with it’s Chiquita Brand , interested in planting bananas for export, the company found in Jaime Ortiz Betancur a great support for attainment of lands and the establishment of the farms in Uraba.
Jaime Ortiz Betancur, was one of the most characterized civic leaders in the Antioquia Department. He donated the terrains of the “Colegio Cooperativo”,”La Madre Laura”,”Universidad FESU”, “La Casa de la cultura ” and the Sports facilities in Chigorodo . Bought the terrains where nowadays is the “Universidad de Antioquia” donated for some banana farmers to the institution.
He participated actively in the foundation of the Banana Asociation in Colombia AUGURA, and the Banana trading companies Uniban and Banacol. He Founded the Chamber of Commerce of Uraba, the agribusiness fair of Chigorodo, among others institutions. He was the first urban developer in Apartado and devoted to the breeding of cattle.
Second Generation
Since 1984, the business structure to La Hacienda SAS is managed for the second generation. In addition of the banana business there is an important diversification headed to the plantation of palm oil and real estates urbanistic activities in the region.
